Job summary

New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM is seeking a part-time student worker to support the Department of Forestry and the New Mexico Reforestation Center. Duties include on-campus and field assignments, assisting with forest management tasks and nursery operations.

The role may lead to experience as a Reforestation Technician or Nursery Trainee. Candidates must be enrolled as NMHU college students, with a high school diploma or GED, and some clerical or office experience preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Support NMHU's Department of Forestry and New Mexico Reforestation Center through on-campus and field assignments.
• Assist with duties of Reforestation Technicians and Nursery Trainees as needed.
• Work may involve fieldwork, planting, seed collection and nursery operations.

Students hired through this posting will support NMHU's Departmentof Forestry, as well as the related efforts of the New MexicoReforestation Center. Duties assigned to this position may includeboth on campus and field assignments that support the Department ofForestry and/or New Mexico Reforestation Center objectives anddeliverables. • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • College Student at NMHU, enrolled with a minimum of six (6) credithours
    • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience:
    • No experience to some clerical/office experience
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Students currently enrolled in the B.S. in Forestry or B.A. onConservative Management programs will be preferred. Individualswith prior experience in field research, technical tree climbing,seed collection, seed processing, nursery production environments,and/pr tree planting will be preferred. Current NMHU defensivedriver training is preferred, but training will be provided ifneeded.
