Stanford Universitys Laurie J. Girand Center for Biomedical Ethics (GCBE) seeks a Research Administrator 2 to manage proposals and post-award activities for federal and non-federal grants.

Established in 1989, the The Laurie J. Girand Center for Biomedical (GCBE) is an interdisciplinary hub for faculty who do research, teaching, and service on topics in bioethics and medical humanities. GCBE and its faculty have been widely recognized for leadership on a range of issues.
GCBE faculty teach throughout Stanford, from large undergraduate courses to ethics courses taken by all medical students. GCBE offers training for medical students who choose to specialize in biomedical ethics and medical humanities, as well a highly-rated research ethics seminar taken by over 350 graduate students and fellows a year. Faculty provide a wide array of educational and training opportunities for residents, fellows, nurses and other medical staff. Additionally, faculty conduct guest lectures in other departments and divisions across the School of Medicine. The Center also provides educational opportunities for the general public.
To conduct innovative empirical bioethics research (in the core areas of genomics, end-of-life care, cultural diversity, neuroscience, the changing health care marketplace, and technology development)To provide leadership in bioethics education for students and faculty in medicine, the Humanities and Sciences, and the professional schools, at Stanford and nationallyTo apply ethical reasoning to moral issues in medicine, including basic science, translational biomedical research, patient care, and the development of medical technologyTo contribute to national and international policy discussions by building a community of professionals dedicated to formulating effective responses to contemporary ethical issuesTo advance and preserve a compassionate and humanistic perspective on the practice of medicine, in order to improve health care for adults and children
GCBE is seeking a Research Administrator 2 to work under minimal supervision to manage the proposal preparation and/or post award activities on grants, contracts, program projects, and federal grants, both routine and complex.
Participate with principal investigator in the preparation of theadministrative components of proposals within parameters of sponsoredand non-sponsored research guidelines. Oversee and communicatesubmission process, both paper and electronic; review documents forcompleteness and compliance.
Develop, prepare, and finalize project budgets, and providebudget justification.
Serve as liaison and active partner between principalinvestigators, Office of Sponsored Research, research groups, and otherdepartments; respond to sponsor inquiries.
Collaborate with Office of Sponsored Research to ensure awardsare set up properly and cost-sharing requirements are fulfilled;initiate cost transfers.
Review and approve expenditures, advise on post award spendingand commitment activity, and oversee compliance related to fund andrevenue.
Develop and communicate reports supporting project status; createeffective forecasting and decision aides.
Participate in contract closeout process; submit final reportsand certificates. Compile information and documents needed for auditinquiries.
Understand, apply, and advise on university and governmentpolicies for projects.
Serve as a resource on subject area and overall technicalresource to principal investigator and other university staff.
Participate in and contribute to process improvements. Lead otherstaff in group projects
May participate as a mentor and provide cross-training asneeded.
Bachelor’s degree and three years of job-related experience, orcombination of education and relevant experience.
Basic knowledge of governmental regulations.
Ability to understand, interpret, and communicate policies andprocedures.
Excellent oral, written, and communication skills.
Excellent analytical skills; demonstrated proficiency in Exceland web-based tools.
Strong accounting skills; knowledge of accountingprinciples.
Ability to complete Cardinal Research Administration FoundationalTraining (CRAFT) I and II within first year in role.
Knowledge of procurement needs, including sole-sourcing, costanalyses, vendor requirements, and small business reporting.
Knowledge of property management requirements related to Stanfordor non-Stanford title of equipment and fabrications.
Competency in project management.
Extreme attention to detail.
Ability to work well independently, but also to seek or offerassistance when needed.
Ability to review a proposal or manage a project withunderstanding of the overall scope and goal of each sponsoredproject.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Cardinal Research Administration Foundational Training (CRAFT) I andII must be completed to remain in this position.
Certified Accountant or Auditor or similar credential desired.
