Job description

Summary

The District Resource Teacher will provide technical assistance, curriculum support, and training to school and district staff related to effective instructional practices and models for the education of students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS

Responsibilities
  • Provides relevant information, materials, resources, and support to district and school staff related to educating student with ASD.
  • Demonstrates a strong working knowledge of best practices in specified content area.
  • Develops and conducts professional development for targeted audience in specified content areas regarding instructional strategies, best practices, and specific instructional topics.
  • Provides coaching to targeted audience in order to improve instruction, classroom organization and management, and effective implementation of district provided resources.
  • Conducts data conferences with classroom teachers to interpret data and plan instruction.
  • Models effective teaching techniques when presenting to groups and other professionals.
  • Assists specified content supervisor in developing model lesson plans and curriculum development.
  • Meets regularly with building administrators regarding classroom practices and provide ongoing feedback with specified content supervisor.
  • Continues to develop professional expertise through professional readings, trainings and conferences.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in classroom teaching, with two years of related management or supervisory experience required. Successful ASD classroom experience or ASD classroom support experience preferred.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Florida Professional Educator Certificate

Language Skills: Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents. Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community. Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.

Mathematical Skills: Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability: Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Office

Physical Demands

Physical Activities: Standing, walking, sitting, handling, keyboarding, talking, and hearing.

Lifting Demands: Up to 10 pounds

Reaching Activities: Both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead

Environmental Conditions: Noise Intensity 3 moderate

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

This position requires traveling to various school sites, work locations and/or community organizations throughout the district. This position requires effective communication with school personnel, parents, and district staff.
