Job description

Description

Are you interested in taking ground-breaking concepts and turning them into ambitious new capabilities that solve the most vexing integrated defense problems of our nation?

If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL!

We are seeking systems engineers to help conceive, define and evaluate system of system requirements for operational applications. We need people who can apply a wide range of modeling, simulation and analytical tools to advance our understanding of sensor, network, combat system and missile performance. We are particularly interested in engineers familiar with digital engineering tools and practices to quickly evolve agile new concepts for rapid deployment to our customers.

As a Requirements & Architecture Systems Engineer you will...
  • Design and refine complex system architectures, ensuring they meet mission objectives and are scalable for future requirements.
  • Lead rigorous trade studies to evaluate competing system concepts, performing technical down-selection to recommend the most effective solutions.
  • Evaluate existing system structures and lead re-architecting initiatives to improve performance, interoperability, or modern capability integration.
  • Utilize requirements management tools to elicit, analyze, and document high-fidelity technical requirements throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Translate high-level mission needs into realizable technical specifications that can be successfully implemented by downstream engineering teams.
Qualifications

You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...

  • Have a BS degree in systems engineering, computer science, engineering, mathematics, or other related technical degree.
  • Have at least 3 years of professional experience performing systems engineering in system concept development, requirements analysis, or systems architecting.
  • Possess the knowledge of the full lifecycle systems engineering processes.
  • Possess strong speaking and writing skills.
  • Are able to organize tasks, collaborate with others and coordinate your work across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Are willing and able to travel periodically, including short duration visits to sponsor offices and supporting contractor sites.
  • Are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a TS/SCI level clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
You’ll go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you...
  • An MS in systems engineering or a closely related field.
  • A Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification from the International Council of Systems Engineers (INCOSE) or related credential
  • Have demonstrated experience executing a trade study on system concepts and down-selecting to a preferred concept
  • Have demonstrated experience engaging stakeholders and developing realizable requirements
  • Have demonstrated experience re-architecting a system and realizing the changes
  • Have experience in requirements management, system architecting, systems analysis, and information dashboard tools
  • Have experience with DoW air and missile defense weapons, sensors, or other related operational military technology
  • Have experience with DHS systems and homeland critical infrastructure
