Job summary

Hearst Television's Des Moines bureau is seeking a Reporter who can generate story ideas, conduct informed interviews, develop sources, and craft compelling live shots across broadcast, digital, social, streaming, and mobile platforms.

You will tackle enterprise reporting, breaking big stories, and delivering accurate, timely content to audiences wherever they are, reporting to the News Director.

Qualifications

• Professional or college reporting experience.
• Experience with enterprise reporting and ability to uncover details.
• Demo reel reflects everyday work.
• Write clear, compelling copy that supports visuals.
• Operate mobile transmission devices and use latest tech.
• Able to work in all weather conditions.
• Uphold journalistic integrity and ethical standards.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Willing to work varied shifts, including overnights and weekends.
• Military experience considered.
• In-person attendance required.

Responsibilities

• Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news or special projects.
• Collaborate with photographer to gather and edit video and sound.
• Develop stories with managers and producers for enterprise angles and exclusives.
• Build a network of sources for tips and breaking stories.
• Contribute photos, video and text updates to mobile platforms.

KCCI the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, IA is looking for a Reporter who can create story ideas, conduct informed interviews, develop sources, build compelling live shots, and tell stories across every platform. You will be a strong, take-charge reporter who hits the ground running every day and understands how to shape reporting for broadcast, digital, social, streaming, and mobile audiences. We value strong enterprise reporting and are looking for someone who finds the stories that lead newscasts while also creating engaging, accurate, and timely content that meets viewers wherever they are. In addition to credibility, poise, and personality, you are not afraid to head out into the field, ask the tough questions and break the big stories. You will be a versatile, enterprising self-starter who is fast, efficient, works well under tight deadlines, can develop sources, and has excellent live reporting skills. You will report to the News Director.

Responsibilities

• Plan, gather and assemble stories on day-of news or special project assignments
• Work with or without a photographer to gather and edit compelling video and captivating sound
• Coordinate with news managers and producers to develop stories that go beyond surface details, that accentuate unique enterprise angles, and have exclusive content
• Develop a network of sources who provide tips, early access to information, and allow the reporter to break stories of significance
• Will contribute pictures, video and text updates to mobile platforms throughout the day
• Work on different stories and projects at once and meeting all deadlines under extraordinary pressure.
• Have and exhibit unwavering journalistic integrity and ethical standards
