Job summary

ANDRITZ is seeking a Service Mechanic to perform shop repairs of High Speed Separators and Decanters at the Service Center, with occasional travel to customer sites (about 10%). You will diagnose issues using vibration analysis, read engineering drawings, and perform precision inspections.

The role requires disassembly/reassembly, balancing, and testing of separators, plus field support across the western United States after training. Strong mechanical skills and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Formal education - High School graduate or above.
  • Certification as a skilled technician in a highly technical field such as centrifuges or turbines.
  • Experience with vibrations analysis, alignment and balancing equipment.
  • Ability to disassemble and rebuild separation equipment and test after reassembly.
  • Ability to work alone in the field after training.

Responsibilities

  • Disassemble and inspect machines to determine repair scope.
  • Perform diagnostic tests including vibration analysis and bearing temperature measurement.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Use precision measuring instruments for dimensional inspection and TI R inspection of rotating parts.
  • Balance rotating assemblies and perform complete mechanical repairs on separators and decanters.
  • Travel to customer sites in the western US for removal, installation and field repairs.
  • Coordinate with service manager and sales engineer for projects in center or field.

Job description

Service mechanic for the service and repairs of High Speed Separators and Decanters

This position is primarily performing Shop repairs of separation equipment at the Service Center with occasional travel to customer sites. Approximate travel time 10%.

Job requirements:
  • Disassembly and inspection of machines to determine required repair scope.
  • Ability to perform diagnostic tests such as vibration analysis, bearing temperature measurement, visual crack detection, wear assessment, oil quality evaluation, cause of excessive noise etc.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Experience in the use of precision measuring equipment to perform dimensional inspection of parts and T.I.R. inspection of rotating equipment such as shafts and bowls.
  • Ability to perform liquid dye penetrant examination of parts to evaluate condition.
  • Ability to determine whether a component should be replaced or repaired, documenting condition on inspection forms.
  • Ability to balance rotating assemblies.
  • Ability to perform complete mechanical repairs on separators and decanters from disassembly and inspection to reassembly and installation.
  • Willingness to travel in the western US to perform removal, installation and field repairs of separation equipment.
  • Ability to assess equipment performance to determine whether a problem is equipment malfunction or process change.
  • Obtain from either internal or external sources, copies of O & M manuals and parts lists for the machines for which quotes can be prepared.
  • Maintain close cooperation and coordination with service manager and/or service sales engineer for projects in the Service Center and in the field.
Qualifications Experience &Training
  • Formal education - High School graduate or above.
  • Minimum training should include certification as a skilled technician in a highly technical field, such as centrifuges, automatic transmission, food production machinery, rotary compressors or turbines etc.
  • Experience with vibrations analysis, alignment and balancing equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to disassemble and rebuild separation equipment , including checking and testing before restarting the separation equipment. Adjust the machine settings to optimize the equipment performance in the customer’s process.
  • Ability to work alone, in the field, on customer’s equipment after extensive training and instruction from a skilled colleague.
Additional Experience & Qualifications desired
  • Minimum of five years of food industry experience, preferably in servicing of food machines like separators and decanters.
  • Display familiarity with the construction and service requirements for Andritz Frautech products as well as competitors’ products such as Westfalia, Alfa–Laval and Pieralisi etc.
  • Ideally, show familiarity with applications in and beyond the food industry, where high speed separators and decanters are installed in the Western United States.
Skills:
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with proficiency in the use of hand tools.
  • Must be able to use precision measuring instruments and have the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints
  • Computer Skills: (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Basic understanding of controls, electrical power requirements, motor interlocks & instrumentation
  • Strong customer and solution focus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work without supervision at customers’ sites
