Job description

East Aurora, New York, United States; United States

Astronics is a publicly traded global aerospace company and a dynamic manufacturer for the aviation and aerospace market in commercial air transport, business/private jet, and military air/ground vehicles. Luminescent Systems, a division of Astronics Corporation in East Aurora, NY, is expanding its technician team.

We're looking for a PCB Repair Technician to join our production team identifying and repairing defective printed circuit boards. In this hands‑on role, you'll support various product lines with a focus on minimizing downtime, meeting shipment deadlines, and driving toward zero defects. You'll work closely with technical and manufacturing teams, directly contributing to the organization's success by catching and correcting PCB defects early in the manufacturing process — and helping drive continuous improvement along the way.

What You'll Do
  • Assemble, solder, and rework through‑hole and surface‑mount components on PCBs using industry‑standard tools and techniques.
  • Perform detailed visual inspections under magnification to identify solder defects, component misalignments, or other quality issues.
  • Conduct functional and continuity testing using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other diagnostic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty boards by replacing components, reflowing solder joints, or correcting wiring errors using schematics and other design documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of test results, repairs, and component usage.
  • Collaborate with engineers to provide feedback on design‑for‑manufacturability and suggest process improvements.
  • Follow ESD‑safe handling procedures and IPC standards to ensure product integrity and reliability.
  • Determine root causes of defects, review findings, and drive improvements to eliminate them.
  • Identify component issues via visual inspection and/or AOI inspection detection.
  • May be required to set up and execute acceptance tests to duplicate identified problems.
  • May serve as a coach, trainer, and mentor for others within the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Technical degree or military training in electronics highly desired but not required.
  • Proven experience in PCB assembly, testing, and repair — ideally in a manufacturing or prototyping environment — utilizing standard ESD practices.
  • Experience or familiarity with the Part 145 repair program is a plus.
  • A meticulous eye for detail and a commitment to delivering flawless work.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a small, collaborative team.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate and summarize findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Demonstrated success working in a team‑based environment.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced soldering capability for both through‑hole and fine‑pitch SMD components and PCB repairs.
  • Ability to inspect to IPC‑A‑610 and repair to J‑STD‑001 standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, assembly drawings, circuits, and BOMs.
  • Comfort using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, and power supplies to set up ATP tests.
  • Familiarity with common electronic components (transistors, capacitors, resistors, inductors, diodes, regulators, and op‑amps) and basic testing/verification for proper polarity and orientation.
  • Familiarity with work order planning and release processes and manufacturing routers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Primarily a manufacturing environment with usually moderate noise levels.
  • Occasional lifting of items up to 25 lbs.
Why You'll Enjoy Working Here:
  • Flexibility that works: 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.
  • Culture of Balance & Growth – We believe in creating space for life outside of work while offering constant opportunities to sharpen your skills and grow your career.
  • Pay range: $25/hr - $30/hr to be influenced by several factors including experience, skill set, education, certifications, market conditions, and business needs
  • Competitive rewards: Benefits start the first of the month after hire, including paid vacation/holidays, health/vision/dental insurance, quarterly bonuses based on company profitability, 401(k) with 3% company contribution, and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
  • An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a drug test and background check.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and/or arms to pull handles and push buttons, and reach objects. Requirements may also include climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Due to federal contract obligations, this position requires US Person status in accordance with ITAR.
