Job summary

Component Repair Technologies, Inc. (CRT) is seeking a Weld Repair Engineer focused on the Weld repair strategy release for TG2, optimizing heat input to avoid cracking and distortion in aerospace components.

You will generate proactive repair plans, support production teams with welding specifications, tooling, and process documentation, and ensure compliance with OEM requirements and safety standards. This role requires interpretation of complex drawings and specs, collaboration with weld

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a technical field (or HS diploma with 5+ years manufacturing experience)

Responsibilities

• Improve weld release strategy prior to TG2 release, including establishing weld limits with ESM criteria and tooling review.
• Drive continuous improvement by applying successful weld repair approaches as standard practice.
• Use root-cause analysis to resolve department errors and operational issues.
• Collaborate with weld technicians, shop leadership, and process engineers to design improved weld procedures.
• Control process parameters to maximize production repeatability and quality control.
• Generate technical work instructions and comprehensive process documentation for complex weld repairs.
• Read and interpret OEM manuals, engineering drawings, blueprints, and material specifications.
• Execute safety protocols to maintain compliance and minimize hazards.
• Adapt plans to customer needs and communicate updates across organization.
• Train operations staff on new process developments and standard procedure updates.

Job description

The Weld Repair Engineer – is focused specifically on the product weld repair strategy release into TG2. In this role, the engineer generates plans for streamlined weld repairs for aerospace components with a focus on minimizing heat input, cracking, and distortion.

Through proactive repair plans, engineers drive reduced rework, improve turnaround time (TAT), and increase overall production throughput in the Weld & Heat Treat Departments.

Provides hands-on technical support to production teams involving weld repair plans and ensure all operations comply with engineering specifications, OEM requirements, quality standards, and environmental regulations.

This position interprets complex engineering drawings, repair specifications, and metallurgical requirements to design tooling, fixtures, programming, and optimized parameters that maintain airworthiness and material integrity.

• Improve Quality Rating of the weld department by developing the production release strategy on specified components before release into TG2. A production release strategy includes establishing weld limitations using ESM criteria and repair experience, reviewing available or required tooling, modifications of work instructions, and collaborating with other engineers and department managers.
• Drive continuous improvement by finding successful approaches to challenging weld repairs and implementing those as regular shop practices.
• Use root-cause analysis protocols to resolve department errors and operational issues.
• Collaborate with weld technicians, weld shop leadership, and weld process engineers to design improved weld procedures and/or specific weld procedures for custom welding applications.
• Control process parameters to maximize production repeatability and quality control accuracy.
• Generate technical work instructions and comprehensive process documentation for complex weld repairs, including operation sheets and setup guides.
• Analyze Results
• Collaborate with production leadership, operators and technicians on the initial weld plan, and monitor the results of those repair plans as they travel through the shop.
• Provide technical support and guidance as needed to aid in successful repair.
• Diagnose repair defects to determine root cause and implement effective corrective actions.
• Review standard work instructions for points of risk and adjust repair plan for greater chance of success.
• Read and comprehend technical documentation including OEM manuals, engineering drawings, blueprints, and material specifications.
• Execute safety protocols to maintain compliance and minimize workplace hazards.
• Personal Management & Communication
• Adapt to the needs of the customer. Adjust schedule and plans to align with customer goals.
• Communicate updates to repair processes, problem-solving initiatives, quality improvements, and process developments across all organizational levels.
• Train operations staff on new process developments and standard procedure updates.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Four Year (Bachelor’s) degree in an Engineering or technical field (B.S. Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, etc.) from an accredited college or university (Or a High School Diploma with a minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience in applicable fields)
• Ability to understand and interpret complex technical documentation including OEM repair manuals, FAA Regulations, and blueprints and the ability to apply and integrate said information in a systematic manner.
• Mechanically inclined with the ability to evaluate from both a technical and mechanical perspective.
• Experience in understanding and following verbal and written instructions accurately, including the reading and interpretation of technical drawings and work scope instructions.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

• Problem solving and analytical skills, capable of identifying and resolving technical issues in a timely manner.
• Strong written and oral communication skills. Able to work effectively with other engineers and technicians as well as the ability to convey complex technical concepts to all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated experience of a strong technical background along with project management experience with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Experience in interpreting and applying basic shop math and the use of measuring devices, such as micrometers and calipers.
• Experience working independently and as part of a team to identify and deliver thoroughly tested solutions.
• Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Understanding of computers and standard software programs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• This is a production support position with a work station located in the production department.
• This position has pre-employment testing requirements that may require fitness for duty testing and a vision exam.
• Follow general shop safety procedures including the occasional use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, and hearing protection.
• Stand and/or sit for portions of the shift.
• Occasionally required to lift, carry, push or pull up to 10 lbs.
