Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a technician to operate and maintain renewable generation equipment across solar and battery storage sites, ensuring safety and reliability while maximizing performance and profitability.

You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, assist with vegetation management and vegetation control, and use diagrams to troubleshoot control systems. A valid driver's license is required, and experience with electrical voltages up to 34.5 kV is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Associate degree in a related technical field or Journeyman qualifications desired.
• Two years of renewable industry experience in electrical maintenance/operations.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Perform corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for equipment.
• Balance of plant inspections, maintenance, and repair of equipment and roads.
• Assist vegetation mitigation using tractors and mowing equipment.
• Interpret electrical, electronic, and mechanical control diagrams to locate and repair systems.
• Initiate clearance permits/LOTO and isolate equipment per procedure.
• Assist in inventory counting and parts management.
• Use software to extract data, analyze trends, and report status for reliability.
• Produce and maintain records, technical reports, procedures, and plant drawings.

Job Posting End Date09-30-2026Please note the job posting will close on the day before the posting end dateJob SummarySupport the operations team by leading the renewable site to assure the facility operates in accordance with Safety, Health and Environmental policies and standards while achieving maximum performance, reliability, and profitability.Responsible for the operation and maintenance of renewable generation equipment to achieve safe, efficient, and environmentally sound plant operations.Assist in coordinating and performing duties related to OEM and contractor oversight, equipment inspections, monitoring, and repairs, including operation and maintenance of solar PV collection assemblies, battery energy storage, AD/DC inverters on multiple solar power plants, and other renewable generation equipment.Job DescriptionWhat You'll Have:Performs corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance and operations for which they are qualified to perform for equipment safely and efficiently.Provides balance of plant activities including inspections, maintenance and repair of both equipment and roads.Assists with site vegetation mitigation plans including running tractors, riding mowers, and other vegetation maintenance equipment.Assist in using elementary, schematic, wiring and control diagrams to locate, troubleshoot and repair control systems involving electrical, electronic, and mechanical components.Initiate clearance permits/LOTO, isolate equipment and remove all stored energy in accordance with procedure. Initiate permits in accordance with policies and procedures.Assist in counting/finding warehouse inventory and parts.Use computer applications and software programs to extract data, analyze trends and report status to ensure plant reliability and efficiency.
