Job summary

NEI Electric Power Engineering is seeking an entry-level Electrical Engineer in Renewable Studies. You will perform engineering analyses under a Professional Engineer’s supervision and work with an integrated design team to meet project schedules and budgets.

The role focuses on power system studies for solar, wind, and BESS projects, and requires strong communication and a willingness to learn and grow within a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution (electric power option preferred).
  • At least one power system class completed.
  • 0–1 year of relevant engineering experience.
  • FE licensure preferred but not required.
  • Strong written and spoken communication.
  • Authorized to work in the United States full-time.

Responsibilities

  • Learn how to perform power system studies on utility scale solar, wind, BESS plants and substations (short circuit, load flow, harmonics, relay protection).
  • Coordinate with design teams to model evolving designs through project cycles and meet schedules and budgets.
  • Review equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable codes and standards that impact study results.
  • Support client relations and maintain professional standards in communications.

About the Position

As an entry level Electrical Studies Engineer in the Renewable Studies group, you will be responsible for performing engineering analysis under the responsible charge of a Professional Engineer. You will be a part of an integrated design team and are responsible for coordinating with team members to meet project schedules and deliverables on time and within the defined budget.

Salary Range: $85,000 - $105,000 / year

The salary range above is based upon the Denver, Colorado labor market.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Learn how to prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility scale solar, wind, BESS power plants and substations including short circuit, load flow, pre-energization harmonics, relay protection philosophy / relay settings, arc flash and other related studies
  • Manage timely execution of assigned tasks and proactively communicate with your supervisor if workload exceeds capacity or capability
  • Communicate and coordinate with design teams to correctly model evolving design through a project design cycle. This includes all physical aspects of a project design that may affect the electrical adequacy and reliability of the design
  • Review equipment data sheets, manuals, and testing reports for design and approvals
  • Learn and maintain professional understanding of applicable Codes and Standards, and typical design and construction practices that may impact design study results
  • Maintains strong and responsive Company-Client relationships, particularly for communication pertaining to specific assignments and meeting topics
  • Maintains high ethical and professional standards
  • Works additional time beyond 40 hours/week to complete projects, proposals and/or administrative functions, as required
  • Attends conferences, training workshops, seminars, regular undergraduate, and graduate classes as appropriate for advancement and as required to maintain quality of work
  • Attend safety training and follow safety rules and guidelines
  • Other job-related responsibilities as assigned
Must Have
  • Education: Bachelor’s in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution, electric power option preferred
  • Basic understanding of key power systems concepts: per unit, 3-phase analysis, etc. Typically requires at least one power system class to be taken while at university.
  • Experience: 0 – 1 years of relevant engineering or field experience
  • Licensure: FE is preferred but not required
  • Possesses effective written and oral communications skills
  • Good interpersonal and people skills
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Nice to Have
  • Experience with some power system software such as EasyPower, ETAP, Power Factory SKM, PSSe, & PSCAD is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and standard computer software
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Work is performed in an office setting, and some field work may be required
  • Travel: Typical: 5 – 15%
  • Physical Activities: Must be able to lift 25lbs.
