Job summary

LanguageLine Solutions is seeking a Tibetan-English phone interpreter to work from home in the United States. The role involves handling on-demand interpretation across industries and translating verbally, not written translation.

This is an independent contractor position with no employee benefits. Essential duties include interpreting sessions promptly, maintaining professionalism, and ensuring accuracy while understanding cultural nuances.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Tibetan and English and cultural dynamics.
• Ability to provide cultural competency and assess regional and accent differences.
• Excellent listening, retention and note-taking skills.
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Applicants must have work authorization without visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Reading/writing the requested languages is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to interpreting sessions promptly in a friendly, professional manner.
• Render correct concepts per interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and expressions.
• Maintain a professional demeanor throughout sessions.
• Remain calm on sessions, including emergency 911 calls.
• Maintain punctuality and availability during work hours.
• Follow client instructions to ensure expectations are met with LEP clients.
• Understand protocol for Medical, Insurance, Finance and Law industries.
• Interpreters translate verbally; this role does not involve written translation.
• Some calls may be highly emotional or stressful; may require extended calls without breaks.
