Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Team Lead for Android to own core product work and raise how the team operates. This hands-on role requires writing and reviewing code, owning features, and delivering results for our Android app that powers the world’s leading TTS experiences.

You’ll mentor engineers, improve reliability, and drive planning across Product, Design, and Engineering while supporting a remote, distributed team with strong growth in mind.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with team leadership or owning a major surface while staying hands-on
• Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
• Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
• Understanding the importance of tests and how to approach writing them
• Ability to drive changes and handle friction when needed
• Ability to describe how your team works with AI agents
• Strong product design intuition and user empathy for Android UI/UX

Responsibilities

• Own major features end to end, from decision through release, with design team collaboration
• Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
• Review pull requests and provide constructive feedback
• Unblock the team when blockers arise and guide decisions
• Coordinate with Product, Design, and Engineering to align constraints early
• Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA
• Mentor early-career engineers and foster learning opportunities
• Shift verification left to automate more checks and improve release readiness
