Job summary

LHH is partnering with a local CPA firm for a Tax Manager/Tax Director role in Walnut Creek, CA, offering remote work with occasional office visits. You will manage a substantial client portfolio and advise owners, high-net-worth clients, trusts, fiduciaries, and real estate clients.

This role offers visibility, autonomy, and a clear path to equity ownership and partnership, with direct involvement in growth initiatives and leadership development within the firm.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 15+ years of public accounting tax experience.
• Experience managing a client book of business.
• Strong technical tax expertise across business and individual returns.
• Experience with real estate taxation.
• Experience working directly with business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
• Strong communication and relationship management skills.
• Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
• Partner, Principal, Director, or Senior Manager experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary advisor for an established book of business.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships through exceptional service and responsiveness.
• Review and prepare complex federal, state, and local tax returns.
• Provide tax planning and consulting advice to business owners and high-net-worth individuals.
• Guide clients through complex tax matters, regulatory changes, and business decisions.
• Delegate work effectively to accounting and administrative staff.
• Mentor and support accounting and administrative staff.
• Partner with firm leadership to improve processes and support growth initiatives.
• Support business development and long-term growth strategies for the firm.
