Job summary

Mass General Brigham is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to review patient records and translate clinical information into ICD-10-CM/ICD-9-CM and CPT codes for insurance processing. The role involves confirming treatments with staff, resolving missing data, and submitting accurate coding for reimbursement.

The position requires 2–3 years of coding experience and strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines, with the ability to handle complex coding questions and participate in audits

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred.
• 2–3 years of medical coding experience.
• In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS and their application in hospital billing.

Responsibilities

• Review patient medical records after visits and translate into ICD-9-CM/CPT codes.
• Confirm treatments with medical staff and identify missing information for submission to insurers.
• Submit coding information to insurers for reimbursement and participate in peer reviews for accuracy and timeliness.
• Audit clinical documentation and coded data to validate that services match reimbursement data.
• Research discrepancies and implement plans to correct coding errors and prevent recurrence.
• Identify reportable elements, complications, and other procedures.
