Thorn is a nonprofit using technology to defend children from exploitation. We seek a Staff ML Engineer to design, build, deploy, and maintain world-class ML models and systems across legal, engineering and product teams.

You will mentor peers, guide scalable solutions, and partner with external partners to advance Thorn’s mission. You’ll work in a remote-first environment with a strong focus on safety, ethics, and impact, contributing to a team tackling challenging problems in harm reduction

Qualifications

• 8+ years background in machine learning/AI, with 3+ years in production-scale CV/NLP systems and pipelines.
• PhD or master's in a quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Strong ability to learn new technologies quickly and work in ambiguity with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end model development and deployment for ML systems.
• Lead ML system designs, set engineering standards, and mentor other engineers.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and external partners to drive requirements and delivery.
