Job summary

American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. is seeking a Staff Engineer - Automation to architect and implement automated testing strategies for large-scale retail systems.

This fully remote role allows work from anywhere in the United States, with periodic in-person interviews at Pittsburgh or NYC locations. You will develop automation libraries for microservices, REST APIs, and UI testing, promote TDD across teams, and ensure quality via reviews and CI/CD integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field plus five years of post-baccalaureate experience.
• Three years of experience developing UI/API automation frameworks for e-commerce/retail.
• Experience with Selenium, Java, Spring, Cucumber and JBehave for complex workflows.
• Testing microservices and REST APIs for core retail functions like orders and checkout.
• Proficient with Maven/Gradle and CI/CD (Jenkins/Bamboo) pipelines; SQL for data integrity.
• Experience in cloud environments (GCP or AWS) and leading automation discussions.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain reusable automation libraries for microservices, REST APIs and UI testing.
• Drive consistent TDD QA practices across teams and ensure code quality via reviews.
• Create test strategies and scripts aligned with requirements and CI/CD workflows.
• Manage version control, code merging and review processes for automated tests.
• Lead automation discussions with developers, QA and stakeholders.
