California Rural Legal Assistance Inc. (CRLA) is seeking a Staff Attorney to provide post-conviction services and full-scope representation to clients seeking to clear records in San Joaquin, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

You will lead Know Your Rights trainings, conduct outreach and clinics, and manage record-clearing cases. The ideal candidate is admitted in California or willing to take the Bar, demonstrates commitment to low‑income communities, and excels in written and oral advocacy.

Qualifications

• Admitted to practice law in the State of California or willing to take the next California Bar Exam.
• Commitment to working with low-income clients and social justice.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent public speaking skills for group trainings or presentations.
• Superior organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Provide post-conviction services and full-scope representation for record clearing.
• Perform community outreach and education campaigns on record clearing options in California.
• Maintain relationships with Public Defenders in the San Joaquin service areas.
• Participate in record clearing clinics and establish workflows for the clinic model.
• Create and present training on record clearing procedures and legal theory.
• Maintain an active caseload representing clients in the Santa Barbara & Ventura service areas.
• Coordinate with grant reporting and development efforts.
