Job summary

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, seeks a Medical Director to lead the claims review program for brain and spine cases. This role involves oversight of medical services, provider discussions, and policy development for medical programs and clinical criteria.

You can work remotely from anywhere in the U.S., with responsibilities including clinical coding reviews and coordination with physicians and other medical staff.

Qualifications

• Active medical license in good standing.
• Board certification in Neurological Surgery (ABMS or AOA).
• 5+ years of clinical experience with brain and spine surgeries after residency.

Responsibilities

• Review surgical and other professional claims for correct coding based on clinical records.
• Participate in training on URAC, NCQA, regulatory compliance, confidentiality, conflicts of interest, HIPAA, and related topics.
• Discuss cases with treating providers by phone during scheduled hours.
• Contribute to clinical conferences, performance reviews, and reviews of medical necessity decisions.
