Job summary

AfterQuery is a research-focused lab exploring AI through novel datasets and experimentation. This remote, project-based role invites software engineers with 1–3 years of experience to design, implement, and review code across varied stacks, collaborating asynchronously on architecture and technical specifications.

You will contribute to real-world engineering challenges over 2–3 weeks per project, with an expected commitment of 10–20 hours per week, and build a portfolio through meaningful,

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language
• Ability to independently scope, implement, and deliver features or fixes
• Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/SE or related field (or equivalent experience)

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and ship clean, well-tested code across diverse stacks
• Debug, refactor, and optimize code for performance and maintainability
• Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback
• Collaborate asynchronously on architecture decisions and implementation plans
• Document code, APIs, and approaches clearly and reproducibly
