Job description

Title: Senior/Staff Data Scientist
Location: 100% Remote
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist
- Advanced Scientific Degree (Master's or PhD)

We are a VC-backed AI-driven energy startup based in Texas. As we continue to grow, we are looking to hire a talented and experienced Senior or Staff Data Scientist to join our dynamic team immediately. You will help us improve and expand our products and further solidify our market-leading position.

In this role, you'll be at the heart of our mission, working closely with our engineers and ETL teams to deliver innovative solutions that drive real-world impact. You'll like it here if you never train on your eval data, always use f1 scores instead of accuracy, and sometimes laugh at memes about the Nobel Prize in physics. We are looking for someone who is open to working at a small company on a distributed team in an agile environment.

This is a 100% remote full-time, permanent position.

This is the role for you if you:
- Enjoy working on small, highly collaborative teams
- Enjoy working across teams to deliver combined solutions that work well for our customers
- Are able to influence through well-reasoned ideas and clear communication
- Enjoy team and company successes as much as your own
- Enjoy owning a deliverable from start to finish
- Enjoy knowing what's happening across the entire company

What You Will Be Doing
  • Design and implement algorithmic and data-driven solutions to open-ended problems
  • Own projects from the research stage through productizing to on-call support
  • Write clean code in Python - we have nothing against R but this is not a pirate ship
  • Collaborate with SMEs to translate business needs into product requirements
  • Keep up with the latest advances in data science and machine learning
What You Need For This Position
  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist
  • Advanced scientific degree (Master's or PhD)
  • Hands-on as in you have labeled data and written estimators by hand
  • You own copies of ESLII and ML Design Patterns and have read at least one of them
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly
  • Proven track record of delivering business value instead of tinkering with hyperparameters
  • Enough time spent with Pandas that you know when to use NumPy instead
  • Usage of typical dev tools like bash, git, Docker, debuggers, and profilers
Bonus Skills:
  • Knowledge of the energy sector and its unique data challenges
  • Background with GIS, geospatial data formats, and spatial statistics
  • Facility with time series data, forecasting problems, and a strong aversion to time travel
  • Enough time in AWS that you know which of EKR, EKS, ECS, and ECR are real services
  • Experience creating or contributing to open source projects

Benefits

  • Competitive salary
  • Ability to work from anywhere in the U.S.
  • Health/dental/vision insurance
  • Flexible leave policy
  • Equity options
  • Clear understanding of work/life balance
  • We are known for our culture!
