An established environmental consulting organization is seeking a Senior Geochemist to support and lead complex mining and environmental projects across the U.S. and internationally. This opportunity is well suited for an experienced technical professional with deep expertise in mining geochemistry who enjoys solving complex water quality and environmental challenges.
The role will work across multidisciplinary project teams on assignments involving mine water chemistry, geochemical characterization, water-rock interactions, environmental impact assessment, groundwater and surface water systems, and geochemical modeling.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a senior technical resource on mining-related geochemistry and environmental projects.
- Evaluate geochemical processes affecting groundwater, surface water, mine materials, and overall water quality.
- Conduct and interpret geochemical modeling to support impact evaluations, mine planning, remediation, and water management strategies.
- Analyze complex laboratory, field, hydrogeologic, and geochemical datasets.
- Support characterization of rock, soil, mine waste, water, and other environmental media.
- Evaluate topics such as water-rock interaction, contaminant mobility, mine drainage, and long‑term water quality.
- Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, presentations, and other client deliverables.
- Work closely with hydrogeologists, geologists, engineers, and environmental scientists on multidisciplinary projects.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other professionals.
- Participate in client meetings and occasional travel to active and inactive mining sites.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience involving mining geochemistry, environmental geochemistry, hydrogeology, and/or related mining environmental work.
- Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, engineering, geochemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- Advanced degree in geochemistry or a related field strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of environmental water quality and aqueous geochemistry.
- Experience conducting geochemical modeling using industry-standard modeling platforms.
- Knowledge of mineral‑water interactions, geochemical processes, and contaminant behavior.
- Experience designing or interpreting laboratory and materials characterization programs.
- Understanding of groundwater systems and their relationship to mine water and geochemical processes.
- Field experience related to mining, groundwater, geological materials, environmental sampling, or site characterization.
- Strong technical writing, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
