Job summary

Optum is seeking a senior data engineer to design and maintain end-to-end data pipelines using Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, and Python. You will collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable solutions for analytics and reporting.

You will mentor associates, author documentation, and drive data quality and performance improvements across data loads and integrations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years hands-on data engineering with enterprise data warehousing and ETL.
• 6+ years ETL development using Azure Data Factory and/or Snowflake.
• 6+ years Snowflake experience with data ingestion and stored procedures.
• 6+ years GitHub version control with CD/CI pipelines.
• 6+ years Python for data processing and workflows.
• 5+ years scripting (Batch/PowerShell) for Azure automation.
• Experience with structured and semi-structured data.
• Experience designing or consuming APIs in Snowflake or ADF workflows.

Responsibilities

• Translate data product and reporting requirements into scalable data engineering solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end data pipelines across layers.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries, views, and stored procedures.
• Architect and support data integration with batch ingestion and automated extracts.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to balance performance and maintainability.
• Mentor teammates on data engineering best practices and Snowflake optimization.
• Document data mappings, file specifications, and runbooks for loads.
• Improve data quality, monitoring, and operational efficiencies.
• Support onboarding of new data sources and secure data transfers.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
• Foster collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.
• Manage multiple priorities and adapt to evolving requirements.
• Diagnose pipeline failures and performance bottlenecks.
