Job summary

Weedmaps is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the AI Platform to build and operate production AI agents and retrieval layers. The role focuses on scalable, cost-efficient AI systems with strong emphasis on safety and observability.

You'll own end-to-end features from model choice to deployment, collaborate with multiple engineering teams, and drive metrics that prove improvements. This is a remote position based in the United States with competitive base pay and bonuses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years of professional software development experience with production services.
• ≥1 year shipping LLM-powered features or agents to production.
• Experience with retrieval systems: embeddings, vector/hybrid search, ranking.
• Proficiency in Python, TypeScript or Ruby; comfortable with a polyglot codebase.
• Experience with AWS, CI/CD and observability tooling.
• Knowledge of MCP servers or similar agent tool frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and operate production AI agents including autonomous coding agents.
• Develop the retrieval and context layer behind the AI brain and semantic search.
• Extend MCP server with shared skills, tools and processes for teams.
• Own evaluation with offline tests and online metrics; gate releases.
• Minimize cost and latency; manage model selection and caching strategies.
• Harden agents against prompt injection and ensure least-privilege access.
• Instrument tracing and logging; participate in on-call for owned systems.
• Evaluate new models/tools and document design decisions.
• Write design docs, review code, and mentor engineers working with LLMs.
