Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Senior Manager of AI/ML Engineering to lead the intelligence layer of our digital solutions from a remote leadership role within the U.S.

You will guide LLM workflows, RAG pipelines, copilots, and classifiers while ensuring safety, performance, and enterprise readiness. Expect collaboration with cross‑functional teams and a strong focus on responsible AI and governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related field or 4+ years of equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of software/AI engineering experience.
• 4+ years building/ deploying production AI apps (LLMs, RAG, embeddings, copilots).
• 4+ years Python engineering experience (APIs, orchestration, pipelines).
• 3+ years of technical leadership/engineering management.
• 3+ years designing governable AI workflows and Responsible AI practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead an engineering team responsible for the intelligence layer of digital consumer applications.
• Direct architectural strategy for LLM workflows, prompt chains, RAG patterns, copilots, and classification systems.
• Establish engineering standards, prompt strategies, tool-calling patterns, and safety guardrails for enterprise AI.
• Drive delivery using enterprise AI tools to streamline workflows and improve velocity.
• Oversee evaluation datasets, scoring rubrics, model performance testing, and failure-mode analysis.
• Evaluate emerging AI/ML trends to inform roadmaps and innovation.
• Partner with Data Engineering to integrate AI apps with governed data pipelines.
• Collaborate with executive leadership, QA, Responsible AI, security, privacy, compliance, and architecture teams.
• Champion production readiness, model observability, drift monitoring, and documentation.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent and cultivate an inclusive culture.
