Job summary

KellyMitchell Group is seeking a Senior Backend Software Developer for the AI Team to design and build AI-powered document processing solutions. You will craft backend systems in Python, create robust APIs with FastAPI, and work on LLM-driven workflows in a distributed agile environment.

The role emphasizes production-grade Python, PostgreSQL design, and evaluating LLM performance, with a focus on reliability, observability, and scalable architecture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in Python (3.10+), including production-grade backend development and async/await.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs using FastAPI, with Pydantic and dependency injection.
• Strong PostgreSQL experience: schema design, queries, indexing, migrations.
• Experience integrating with OpenAI and Azure OpenAI services.
• Experience building AI-powered apps with embeddings and prompt engineering.
• Experience designing LLM evaluation frameworks and drift detection.
• Knowledge of core LLM concepts: tokenization, embeddings, context windows, caching.
• Experience writing automated tests with pytest and ensuring code quality.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python, FastAPI, and asynchronous programming patterns.
• Build AI-powered features leveraging Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, embeddings, and document extraction tech.
• Design PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and migrations to support scalable performance.
• Architect LLM evaluation frameworks, prompt optimization, and model monitoring including drift detection.
• Develop production-ready, strongly typed Python code with best practices.
• Create unit and integration test suites with pytest and high coverage.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to architectural design discussions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver scalable AI solutions.
• Support improvements in architecture, performance, observability, and reliability.
