Job summary

Avalara is seeking a Senior DevOps and Release Engineer to lead deployment workflows across Salesforce, Boomi, and AWS from a remote location. You will build guardrails, govern release processes, and optimize CI/CD pipelines with AI-assisted tooling.

You will collaborate with security, compliance, and multiple engineering teams to improve deployment velocity, reliability, and observability, while developing runbooks and governance standards.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in DevOps or release engineering for enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience with Salesforce CLI, change sets, and Salesforce metadata deployments.
• Proficiency with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Terraform for infrastructure provisioning.
• Experience managing release processes across multiple interconnected systems (Salesforce, Boomi, AWS).
• Troubleshoot deployment failures and resolve issues quickly.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering teams across platforms.
• Experience implementing release governance practices such as approval gates and rollback procedures.
• Experience applying AI-powered tools to improve deployment efficiency and reduce manual effort.
• Familiarity with Boomi or similar integration platforms and their deployment processes.
• Experience with Salesforce DevOps Center or third-party Salesforce release management tools (Copado, Gearset, Flosum).
• Knowledge of AWS CloudFormation, CDK, or other IaC tooling beyond Terraform.
• Exposure to SRE practices and observability tools like Datadog or Splunk.
• Relevant certifications such as AWS DevOps Engineer, Salesforce Admin/Developer, or Terraform Associate.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate Salesforce, Boomi, and AWS deployment requests, ensuring change sets are conflict-free before promotion.
• Develop CI/CD pipelines using Salesforce CLI, change sets, and GitLab for Salesforce deployments, plus Terraform for AWS provisioning.
• Troubleshoot deployment failures with engineering teams and maintain automated rollback procedures.
• Build monitoring dashboards to detect deployment issues before customers are affected.
• Establish and enforce release governance with approval gates and dependency checks.
• Define and report deployment metrics like deployment frequency, MTTR, and lead time for changes.
• Collaborate with security/compliance to meet audit standards and controls.
• Develop runbooks and deployment strategies for repeatability and knowledge transfer across teams.
