Job summary

Tor Publishing Group is seeking an associate editor to join the Bramble team. You will acquire or co-acquire and edit romance titles, working with a Senior Editor to shepherd titles through production and publication.

You will build relationships with agents, present titles for acquisition, and coordinate across departments to position books for success. The role emphasizes strong editorial development, negotiation with rights holders, and creating compelling copy for marketing materials.

Qualifications

• 3+ years editorial experience, including some acquisitions.
• Experience with line and developmental editing.
• Ability to manage multiple titles and deadlines.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships with literary agents to solicit submissions and discuss editorial vision.
• Present books for acquisition with analysis of titles, sales potential, and profit and loss statements.
• Negotiate major terms for acquisitions with agents and rights contacts, including advance and territories.
• Develop a successful list of about 5-8 titles per year.
• Coordinate with production, design, marketing, publicity, and other departments to shepherd titles to publication.
• Write copy for catalogs, launch sheets, feeds, and book jackets/covers.
• Present titles at internal meetings and discuss cover strategy with art department.
• Solicit advance quotes to position books and enhance sales potential.
• Respond promptly to author and agent queries and facilitate internal collaboration.
