Job summary

Humana Inc. in the United States is seeking a Research Scientist 2 (Remote) to apply statistical and epidemiologic methods to identify trends and size opportunities across Medicare Advantage populations.

You will write code in SQL, SAS and Python to prepare data, build models, and create visuals; collaborate with clinicians and strategy partners to translate results into actionable insights. This role offers a remote work arrangement with opportunities to travel to Humana offices for meetings;

Qualifications

• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics or Engineering).
• 2+ years of experience applying SQL, SAS and Python to produce datasets and analytic variables.
• Experience with experimental or quasi-experimental methods (RCTs, propensity matching, difference-in-difference).
• Interest in healthcare and impact on outcomes; ability to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Ability to translate results into actionable insights for business partners.

Responsibilities

• Perform exploratory analyses on populations, trends, and clinical conditions to identify opportunities for outcome improvement.
• Collaborate with clinicians to define clinical concepts and extract information from medical, pharmacy, and lab claims.
• Apply descriptive and epidemiological methods to research questions.
• Design outcomes studies and evaluate programs using RCTs or quasi-experiments.
• Review literature to assess engagement and effect sizes of interventions in early design stages.
• Write SQL, SAS and Python code to assemble data, create analytic variables, and build models and visuals.
• Communicate analytic results and insights clearly to business partners; align with strategy and objectives.
• Make research method decisions in ambiguous contexts with guidance.
