Job summary

Optum is seeking a detail-focused Authorization Specialist to support medical procedures pre-authorization and insurance coordination. You will work in a fast-paced environment ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication with physicians and staff.

The role requires 2+ years in medical offices, strong CPT/ICD-10 knowledge, and proficiency with Outlook/Teams and multiple web apps. Remote work within Oregon is available with occasional onsite training.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED or equivalent years of work experience.
• 2+ years of experience in a medical office.
• 2+ years of experience interacting with insurance companies.
• 2+ years of experience in ICD-10 and CPT coding knowledge.
• Computer proficiency including Outlook, Teams, and web applications.
• Ability to be on camera for meetings during work hours.

Responsibilities

• Obtain authorizations for medical procedures prior to the date of service.
• Process authorizations and submit clinical documentation to insurance carriers.
• Document all prior authorization information in the patient chart.
• Communicate approvals/denials to physicians and staff and assist with denials.
• Research, correct, and re-submit rejected claims and assist with appeals if needed.
• Maintain timely communication with scheduling and clinical staff when information is missing.
• Collaborate with other departments to obtain pre-authorizations as needed.
• Handle high workload volume timely and accurately.
