Job summary

DLA Piper seeks a Patent Agent to join our Patent Development and Strategy Group in Boston, Philadelphia, DC, San Diego or Palo Alto. Ideal candidates have 3-5 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications, with a degree in molecular biology or related field and USPTO registration.

Experience in litigation, opinions, licensing, due diligence, and other patent prosecution aspects is preferred.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications.
• Degree in molecular biology or related scientific discipline.
• Registration with the USPTO is required.
• Experience with patent strategy and development is preferred.
• Excellent communication and research skills.

Responsibilities

• Draft patents and patent applications.
• Draft responses to USPTO office actions.
• Collaborate with attorneys on patent preparation and prosecution.
• Draft instructions to foreign patent agents in response to office actions.
• Maintain detailed understanding of products and technical developments.
• Conduct patentability studies and related assessments.
• Provide technical support for opinions, diligence projects and litigation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
