Job summary

FAO - Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations seeks a Pandemic Preparedness Veterinary Specialist to support the MAKE-READY project in Europe and Central Asia. The role focuses on strengthening animal health systems, surveillance, and One Health collaboration with national partners.

Responsibilities include providing technical input on zoonotic disease prevention, capacity building, SOP development, and simulation exercises.

Qualifications

• Advanced university degree in veterinary medicine or a related field.
• At least five years of relevant experience in animal health, One Health, or related programmes.
• Working knowledge of English; knowledge of Albanian, Macedonian or Serbian is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide expertise on One Health, veterinary epidemiology, surveillance, emergency preparedness, disease response and farm biosecurity.
• Contribute to capacity building events and design training material on veterinary epidemiology, disease surveillance, outbreak investigation and AMR.
• Review and develop national strategy documents, e.g. control, surveillance or vaccination plans/strategies.
• Support development and technical review of SOPs and guidelines.
• Design, implement and evaluate simulated exercises.
• Carry out other tasks as requested by project leads.
