Job summary

Sierra7 is seeking a Medical Coding Auditor to support the Department of Veterans Affairs. The auditor will be an expert in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS, performing audits of encounters to identify non-compliance in coding.

This is a part-time remote role with 20+ hours per week, scheduled at your discretion. Minimum qualifications include an associate degree or higher in health care, 5+ years of coding/auditing, and VA/government experience; VIRR/WebVIRR experience and AHIMA/AAPC certifications are

Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree or higher in Health Care.
  • Minimum of 5 years of coding/auditing experience.
  • One year of creditable experience indicating knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and medical coding.
  • At least two years VA or other Government contractor coding experience.
  • Experience using VIRR/WebVIRR.
  • Commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week, Mon–Sun.

Responsibilities

  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, disease processes, treatments, diagnostics, medications, and coding practices to ensure proper code selection.
  • Review codes across ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Apply VA VER A guidelines for patient classification.
  • Monitor regulatory and policy changes affecting coded data for VA services.
  • Assist staff with documentation requirements to reflect care.
  • Review, analyze, and report performance monitors for PTF, PCE, VERA, and non-VA care coding.
  • Collaborate with coding and clinical staff, provide training on coding issues.
  • Analyze audit results and prepare feedback for coders and clinicians; provide coding consultation.
  • Six additional months of creditable experience as MRT (Coder) as required.
