Job summary

Independence Shared Services seeks a skilled Medical Coder to support IPM Markets across the UHS system. You will apply CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes in multiple EHRs, ensuring timely, accurate coding and adherence to documentation standards.

Collaboration with Billing and providers is essential to maintain efficient revenue cycles. Required are 3–5 years in healthcare coding with CPC certification; cardiology/orthopedics experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate/GED required. Technical School, 2 Years College, or Associates Degree preferred.
• 3-5 years minimum experience in healthcare billing, coding or related operations.
• Experience in cardiology and orthopedics coding is required.
• Must have PCP or primary care provider experience and internal medicine experience.
• Denial management experience is required.
• AAPC CPC Certification is required.
• Knowledge of CPT-4, ICD-10, CMS guidelines, and revenue cycle concepts.
• Strong organization, detail orientation and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate code assignment using CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes across EHR systems.
• Collaborate with Billing Operations to ensure correct charge posting to PMS.
• Communicate with providers to ensure timely documentation and coding accuracy.
• Educate providers on documentation to optimize coding and charges.
• Maintain knowledge of coding guidelines and updates (AAPC/IPM policies).
• Escalate coding trends to mitigate denials and improve first-pass revenue.
• Participate in team meetings to improve processes and performance.
