Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Estimator/Cost Manager for preconstruction work on data center projects. The role blends hands-on estimating with cost consulting and client-facing responsibilities in a collaborative consultancy.

You will shape early budgets, influence decisions, and provide reliable cost guidance to clients and internal stakeholders across multiple market sectors, mentoring peers and delivering executive-ready summaries.

Qualifications

• 5+ years mechanical estimating experience.
• Experience supporting large, complex projects, preferably data centers.
• Strong conceptual estimating and early planning experience for mechanical/MEP scopes.
• Deep technical understanding of mechanical scopes and construction methods.
• Ability to read schedules, drawings and specs.
• Advanced cost estimating methods, tools and processes in construction.
• Strong Excel skills for detailed cost models and analyses.
• Experience with Accubid, Bluebeam and Procore software.
• Excellent written and verbal client-facing communication.
• Ability to interpret evolving design info and provide cost guidance.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, schematic, and detailed cost estimates for mechanical scopes focusing on data centers.
• Support budget development, cost planning, feasibility studies and value engineering.
• Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure accuracy and alignment with requirements.
• Plan workloads and manage tasks to deliver outputs on time in a fast-paced environment.
• Conduct value analysis to optimize scope, cost, and performance.
• Reconcile change orders, invoices, and cost impacts with GC/subcontractors.
• Provide post-contract cost support including bid analysis and change management.
• Identify cost risks and opportunities and suggest mitigation strategies.
• Mentor estimators and estimating technicians.
• Develop client relationships with clear cost guidance and responsive support.
• Prepare client-facing reports and executive-ready summaries.
