Job summary

Symetra Financial Corporation is seeking a Lead Analytics Engineer to model data and deliver clean, well-documented datasets for Finance, Investment Management, and Actuarial teams. You will lead the migration of investment data to a modern cloud data platform and mentor junior engineers to elevate analytics capabilities.

The role focuses on designing scalable data models, pipelines, and governance across Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, and BigQuery, with strong SQL and Python proficiency

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• 8-10 years in analytics engineering or data engineering roles.
• Advanced SQL and Python skills with data modeling & ETL/ELT development.
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, or Redshift.
• Proficiency with dbt, SQLMesh, Coalesce, or Dataform.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data models, datasets, and data marts for Finance, Investment Management, and Actuarial teams.
• Serve as subject matter expert for investment and actuarial data domains, including holdings, transactions, and security master data.
• Lead migration of investment data to a modern cloud data ecosystem with quality controls.
• Develop cloud-native data architectures for storage, integration, governance, and analysis of financial data.
• Build ETL/ELT pipelines from multiple sources ensuring scalability and performance.
• Collaborate with Finance, Investment Management, Actuarial, IT, and Analytics teams to translate requirements into solutions.
• Identify new data products and analytical capabilities to improve decision-making.
• Promote data engineering best practices, testing, documentation, and governance.
• Mentor analytics engineers with code reviews and architectural guidance.
• Optimize data warehouse performance and pipeline orchestration on Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or BigQuery.
• Stay current on industry trends in data engineering and cloud platforms.
