Job summary

Oportun is hiring a Senior Data Engineer for the Member Communication Platform. You will design scalable data architectures, build Databricks-based pipelines, and ensure data quality, observability, and compliance. You will lead cross-functional data initiatives and mentor engineers.

The role emphasizes production-ready data products, secure access, and collaboration with Privacy, Compliance and Security teams. Remote–India; candidates must be based in India to perform the role.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of data engineering experience in data architecture, pipelines, platforms or lakehouse management.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or equivalent; strong Python/PySpark and SQL skills; effective communication and leadership.
• Hands-on experience with Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, CI/CD, and end-to-end data integrations in production.
• Experience with data quality, observability, and governance, plus cloud platforms (especially AWS).

Responsibilities

• Lead design and implementation of scalable, secure data architectures for member communications.
• Drive complex data engineering initiatives from requirements to production delivery; coordinate across engineers and stakeholders.
• Develop and optimize production pipelines using Databricks, Spark, PySpark, Spark SQL, and Delta Lake; modernize legacy workloads.
• Establish data quality, lineage, monitoring and runbooks; ensure compliance and data security.
• Provide technical leadership through reviews, mentoring, and incident response; drive release readiness and testing.
