Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer (Uber Tech Lead) for Identity & Access Management within Platform. You will own the technical strategy unifying workforce, AI agent, service, and workload identity across 700+ internal systems, guiding architecture, adoption, and governance.

You will mentor engineers, translate regulatory needs into automated controls, and drive cross-team collaboration to make secure access the standard across the organization.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering with senior platform leadership across multiple teams.
• IAM expertise across workforce identity, authorization, access lifecycle, or non-human identity.
• Production Go experience and distributed systems design on AWS with identity protocol fluency.
• Proven influence without authority at senior levels across orgs.
• Ability to translate audit/regulatory requirements into automated controls; strong written and verbal communication.
• Generative AI usage with human oversight to improve workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own the multi-year technical strategy for IAM end to end, unifying identity types under a common model.
• Drive architecture decisions across pods and teams with defined standards and contracts.
• Lead adoption strategies for 700+ systems, including sequencing and build-vs-buy decisions.
• Translate audit and regulatory requirements into automated controls and self-generating evidence.
• Lead data model and tooling to answer who has access to what and why.
• Mentor staff and senior engineers to grow identity as a domain.
