Capitol Pacific Reporting, Inc. is seeking a Freelance Licensed Court Reporter for a hybrid, contract-based position based in Washington state. The reporter will capture depositions, hearings, and legal proceedings both in-person and remotely, producing verbatim transcripts to exacting standards.

You will attend proceedings, swear witnesses, and deliver timely transcripts while coordinating with attorneys, staff, and schedulers. Maintain confidentiality and stay current with reporting technology.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in court reporting, including real-time reporting and accurate capture of legal proceedings.
  • Strong transcription skills with excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail in producing final transcripts.
  • Experience working in court proceedings and depositions, with a solid understanding of legal terminology and protocols.
  • Ability to accurately record and preserve testimony, including handling multiple speakers and complex subject matter.
  • Reliable reporting equipment and software suitable for remote and hybrid proceedings.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to meet strict deadlines, and comfort working as an independent contractor.
  • Professional communication skills and a commitment to confidentiality, ethics, and client service.
  • Prior experience with remote depositions and familiarity with common video-conferencing platforms is highly beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Attend scheduled proceedings, in-person or remotely, to capture testimony.
  • Swear in witnesses and ensure proper oath administration.
  • Take down testimony using approved reporting methods.
  • Produce timely, formatted transcripts in accordance with standards.
  • Coordinate with attorneys, staff, and schedulers; manage deadlines.
  • Handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Maintain professional equipment; stay current with reporting technology.
  • Comply with licensing and notary requirements.
