Job summary

Optum is hiring a Senior Healthcare Economic Consultant to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. This role partners with contracting, finance, actuarial, operations and leadership to evaluate pricing impacts and drive data-informed decisions.

Strong SQL, Excel and communication skills are essential to deliver analyses and support negotiations. Occasional in-person collaboration may be required in certain markets.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of analytical experience in healthcare pricing, managed care, provider reimbursement, network contracting, finance, or healthcare analytics
• Experience with healthcare claims and reimbursement methodologies
• Advanced proficiency in Excel, including pivot tables and financial modeling
• Intermediate MS-SQL with joins and case statements
• Knowledge of provider payment methodologies: FFS, capitation, value-based models
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams

Responsibilities

• Design and implement tools to identify principal cost and revenue drivers by market segment/provider-payor
• Develop SQL queries, analytical models, dashboards, and automated reporting tools
• Analyze reimbursement models and pricing impacts to support negotiations
• Manage unit cost tracking and alignment with negotiation outcomes
• Analyze large healthcare datasets to monitor cost, utilization, reimbursement, and trends
• Ensure pricing and reporting methods are accurate, consistent, and transparent
• Support cost containment, network optimization, and operational improvement initiatives
• Present findings to leadership and collaborate with cross-functional teams
• Standardize and document repeatable processes for scalability
