Job summary

Coinbase is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer for the Identity Verification team within the Platform group. You will own ML systems that determine legitimacy of users, documents, and capture sessions, guiding end-to-end ML strategy from architecture to production enforcement to protect millions of accounts.

You will mentor senior and mid-level engineers, collaborate with ML Platform and Risk ML teams, and drive cross-company ML system design while delivering scalable, responsible AI

Qualifications

• 8+ years deploying production ML systems at scale with cross-team ownership.
• Domain experience in identity verification, biometrics, or account integrity with ML in multiple areas.
• Expert-level Python with production TensorFlow or PyTorch experience.
• Experience translating KYC/AML requirements and fraud trends into ML roadmaps and communicating trade-offs to stakeholders.
• Responsible use of generative AI with human oversight for business-ready outputs.

Responsibilities

• Own the full IDV ML stack from feature pipeline to production enforcement.
• Build identity-graph systems to detect synthetic-identity rings during onboarding.
• Develop behavioral and device-intelligence models for real-time risk scoring and anomaly detection.
• Benchmark vendor models and design routing logic across providers/geographies.
• Mentor engineers and partner with ML Platform and Risk ML teams on system design.
