Job summary

the company is building a dedicated QA automation function from the ground up in a remote-first North America environment. The QA Engineering Manager will lead a growing team, define quality standards, and personally contribute to automated tests and framework components.

You'll work with AI tooling to shape testing practices while maintaining human-in-the-loop governance and strong collaboration with engineering leadership.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in software quality or engineering, with 3+ years leading engineers.
• Hands-on coding ability to build framework components and write automated tests yourself.
• Strong technical judgement on automation frameworks, CI/CD, and test architecture.
• Fluency with modern automation tooling (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI).
• Experience defining quality metrics and using them to influence release decisions.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the quality engineering strategy and roadmap across products.
• Split time roughly 50/50 between leading the team and doing the work yourself: setting direction, hiring, coaching.
• Select the test automation tooling and framework, and set the standards squads build on.
• Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and partner with DevOps on deployments.
• Define quality gates and risk-based testing approaches to protect clients.
• Hire, coach, and grow a team of automation engineers and raise testing discipline.
• Own quality metrics and a dashboard trusted by leadership for go/no-go releases.
• Evaluate and adopt AI-assisted testing tools with human-in-the-loop review.
