Coinbase is hiring a Commercial Counsel to join our Business Legal team and lead the legal strategy behind Coinbase's key payments partnerships. You will own end-to-end execution on first-of-its-kind transactions that set crypto industry benchmarks and accelerate growth.

As a trusted partner across Business Development, Sales, Product, Engineering, and Compliance, you will craft practical guidance balancing risk with speed, build scalable playbooks, and drive deal velocity in a rapidly evolving

Qualifications

• 5+ years of transactional legal experience in-house or at a leading law firm with a JD and an active license in a U.S. state.
• Experience drafting, structuring, and negotiating complex commercial agreements with fintechs, banks, payment networks, and/or issuers/acquirers.
• Ability to navigate regulated financial services environments and translate regulatory changes into actionable guidance.
• Proven ability to manage a high-volume deal pipeline with precision in drafting and risk assessment.
• Uses generative AI responsibly with human oversight to deliver business-ready outputs and drive efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Draft, negotiate, and execute tailored commercial agreements with strategic partners in payments/fintech.
• Develop novel agreement frameworks and deliver pragmatic legal advice balancing risk with speed.
• Partner across Business Development, Sales, Product, Engineering, Finance/Tax, and Compliance to close deals quickly.
• Build scalable commercial playbooks and risk-mitigation strategies to accelerate timelines.
• Coordinate with Coinbase legal and outside counsel to resolve issues.
