Job summary

Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) seeks a Downtown Design Manager to help Wisconsin communities revitalize downtowns and historic districts through design expertise and strategic development support.

You will collaborate with local leaders, property owners, and partners to advance redevelopment, strengthen district identity, and promote sustainable economic growth statewide.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, community development, architecture, real estate, business administration, or related field.
• Five+ years in community development, planning, architecture, or related field.
• Knowledge of downtown revitalization, design review, historic preservation principles.
• Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
• Willingness to travel statewide, including overnight travel 30%+.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance and design expertise to communities pursuing downtown revitalization initiatives.
• Support redevelopment projects through design guidance, renderings, and permitting navigation.
• Serve as an expert on building design, historic preservation, downtown development practices, and incentive programs.
• Develop and deliver workshops, training programs, and educational resources for communities.
• Build and maintain relationships with local communities, partner organizations, and economic development stakeholders.
• Represent WEDC at conferences, meetings, and public events supporting downtown development.
