Job summary

Humana Inc., through CenterWell, seeks a Director of Data Science (AI/ML) to lead a technical team focused on AI model development. You will partner with product, IT, and enterprise AI to translate priorities into validated AI solutions for patient care and operational efficiency.

You will guide the team to balance research with production discipline, ensure governance, and advance healthcare-focused AI capabilities across the organization. This remote role may require occasional travel.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of data science experience with production ML models.
• 5+ years of management experience including talent development and crossfunctional leadership.
• Experience partnering with product, engineering and partners to translate requirements into technical solutions.
• Experience with MLOps including model versioning, experiment tracking, and monitoring.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical audiences and to senior data scientists and ML engineers.
• Demonstrated leadership in establishing technical standards and scalable team processes.
• Can work Eastern Time Zone hours.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and validation of AI/ML models for business-wide applications.
• Maintain deep technical expertise in AI approaches and healthcare context guidance.
• Promote rapid prototyping to validate feasibility before full development.
• Balance research with production discipline for maintainable models.
• Implement enterprise-level monitoring and performance tracking for models in production.
• Define the technical vision and roadmap for the data science team and operating model.
• Collaborate with product management to translate priorities into technical approaches and timelines.
• Provide technical consulting on feasibility and trade-offs for AI opportunities.
• Explain model capabilities to non-technical partners in clear terms.
• Create reusable frameworks and templates to increase productivity.
• Engage with clinical and operational partners to address real-world needs.
