Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director of AI Engineering to lead the Generative AI Training platform and scale responsible AI across the enterprise. The role coordinates cross‑functional teams, guides architecture, and drives cost‑efficient GPU training and deployment for foundation models at scale.

You will mentor leaders, shape the technical vision, and partner with research, compliance, and risk to ensure trustworthy AI delivery in a complex banking environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field with multi‑year AI/ML experience.
• At least 3 years of people leadership experience.
• Experience building and operating large‑scale ML/GPU training infra on cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

• Lead cross‑functional teams to deliver AI‑powered products for associates and customers.
• Oversee design, development, testing, deployment, and operation of core AI platform systems.
• Make build‑vs‑buy decisions across OSS and SaaS AI tech stacks.
• Invent state‑of‑the‑art techniques to improve training scalability and cost.
• Own GPU capacity planning and cost governance for training workloads.
• Contribute to long‑term AI platform roadmap and architecture.
• Foster talent development and mentoring within the team.
• Translate AI strategy into portfolio execution plans across product areas.
• Scale engineering practices with shared infra and governance frameworks.
• Establish enterprise standard for Responsible AI including fairness metrics and audits.
• Partner with compliance and risk teams to meet regulatory standards.
