Job summary

Optum is hiring a Director of Technology Delivery and AI Engineering to lead a portfolio of data engineering, AI automation, and client delivery initiatives. Remote with hybrid schedule; MN or DC locations support in-office days and flexible remote work.

You will drive executive-level delivery governance, roadmaps, and multi-million-dollar budgets, shaping modernization, AI adoption, and platform transformation across distributed teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4+ years of equivalent software engineering, data engineering, or technology leadership experience
• 10+ years of progressive technology leadership experience
• 7+ years leading large-scale programs or portfolios
• Experience managing manager-of-managers organizations and globally distributed teams
• Experience implementing Agile delivery practices and governance frameworks
• Experience leading multi-million-dollar portfolios including financial planning and value realization
• Deep expertise in data engineering technologies including Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Delta Lake, Snowflake, APIs
• Proven success delivering complex enterprise programs involving cloud modernization and data platforms
• Experience managing risks, dependencies, budgets, and executive stakeholder communications
• Executive presence with ability to influence senior leaders across business and tech functions

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end delivery for data engineering, AI automation, and client implementations
• Lead strategic execution across multiple initiatives and ensure scope, schedule, quality, and governance
• Develop roadmaps and investment strategies with senior leaders
• Drive cloud, data platform, and AI-enabled transformation initiatives
• Establish delivery governance including executive reporting and risk management
• Utilize AI-powered delivery practices to improve resource planning and delivery predictability
• Champion responsible AI adoption with governance and compliance
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and ROI tracking for multi-million portfolios
• Build and lead high-performing teams with a manager-of-managers model
• Collaborate with onshore and offshore teams during U.S. business hours
• Influence engineering standards and enterprise architecture decisions
• Ensure operational excellence through production stability and observability
• Evaluate emerging technologies to drive innovation
