Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is seeking a Deputy Chief Regulatory Officer to lead the Market Regulation Department as second-in-command and ensure robust regulatory compliance across CFTC rules. The role partners with senior regulators and internal teams to protect customers and maintain licenses.

The position requires deep CFTC knowledge, strong writing and cross-functional leadership, and the ability to manage multiple workstreams while leveraging AI with human oversight to improve efficiency and outcomes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of compliance/regulatory experience with CFTC-registered markets (DCMs/DCOs).
• Hands-on experience interpreting Parts 38, 39 and 40 in a DCM/DCO environment.
• Experience engaging directly with senior CFTC staff and regulators.
• Deep knowledge of CFTC Core Principles and their application to exchange operations.
• Strong grasp of market fundamentals and surveillance techniques.
• Ability to produce clear written memoranda, reports and information requests.
• History of managing multiple regulatory workstreams across cross-functional teams.
• Uses generative AI with human oversight to improve workflow and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day leadership of the Market Regulation Department as second-in-command.
• Drive compliance posture across CFTC requirements and identify gaps.
• Lead internal and external examinations, audits, and responses.
• Collaborate with trade surveillance to review cases and enforcement actions.
• Advise on CDE Core Principles, CFTC regulations, and policy interpretations.
