Job summary

UnitedHealth Group, through Optum Technology, is seeking a Data Engineering Analyst with AI/ML expertise to advance the AI 10.0 initiative. You will design AI-driven data workflows, fine-tune models, and build scalable pipelines in cloud environments while ensuring healthcare data standards and Responsible AI principles.

Remote work is allowed nationwide with a four-day in-office requirement for Minneapolis area staff; you’ll mentor peers and collaborate across teams to deliver impactful,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS or IT related field.
• 5+ years in data engineering and backend automation.
• 5+ years Python, PySpark, T-SQL, SQL, and big data tech experience.
• 1+ years cloud experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• 1+ years CI/CD, GitHub Actions, and Docker.
• 1+ years Agile and DevOps practices.
• 6+ months Generative AI frameworks (LangChain, HuggingFace, OpenAI).
• 6+ months AI/ML concepts including LLMs and prompt engineering.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop AI-driven solutions using LLMs to automate claims adjudication.
• Build and optimize prompt engineering strategies for LLM-based applications.
• Implement and integrate agentic frameworks to enable autonomous decision-making workflows.
• Architect and deploy scalable data pipelines and AI workflows leveraging Python.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with healthcare data standards and Responsible AI principles.
• Contribute to model development, evaluation, and fine-tuning for production environments.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster knowledge-sharing within the team.
• Work independently to deliver innovative solutions aligned with business objectives.
• Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with emphasis on responsible use of AI.
