Job summary

City of Austin seeks a Council Communications Strategist for the District 10 Office to develop and implement equity-focused communications and outreach for constituents across digital and in-person channels.

The role supports messaging, content creation, and engagement with residents, boards, and agencies; requires strong writing, design sensibility, and ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Public Administration with experience in communications.
• Experience may substitute for education up to four years.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of municipal government structures and public information practices.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review speeches, and other written materials.
• Manage community outreach, newsletters, emails, updates, meetings and public forums.
• Attend meetings and provide staff assistance during meetings.
• Develop social media content and campaigns and manage online engagement.
• Lead press strategy and cultivate media relationships; draft advisories and releases.
• Lead crisis communications and rapid responses to breaking news.
• Collaborate with policy team on messaging for office initiatives.
• Support event logistics and community outreach events.
