Job summary

Sur La Table is expanding its East Coast store portfolio and seeks a Construction Manager, New Store Development, to own the full lifecycle of new builds, remodels, and tenant improvements with budget accountability from $50K to $2.5M+.

You will lead on-site and coordinate with Real Estate, Operations, IT, and Finance, ensuring health code compliance for commercial teaching kitchens, while traveling 20–50% as projects demand.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of construction project management experience in commercial retail, restaurant, or grocery.
• Must be based in the Midwest or East Coast.
• Independent ownership of new store builds from $50K to $2.5M+ with full budget accountability.
• Experience with commercial kitchen construction and health code coordination.
• Proficiency reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and MEP documents.
• Strong budgeting, forecasting, and cost-to-complete tracking.
• Ability to travel 20–50% and manage multiple sites.

Responsibilities

• Manage full lifecycle of construction projects from pre-construction to closeout.
• Own budgets, forecasts, cost tracking end-to-end.
• Solicit, review, and award bids; negotiate contracts with GC and subs.
• Serve as primary owner's representative on-site and in communications.
• Coordinate with Real Estate, Store Ops, Visual Merchandising, IT, and Finance.
• Oversee kitchen buildouts including hood systems and health code compliance.
• Manage permitting, inspections, and CO processes with architects and authorities.
• Deliver budget/forecast reports to leadership with variance analysis.
• Maintain project documentation: RFIs, submittals, change orders, lien waivers.
